Day 81 – St. Arnaud Zero Day!

January 19, 2017

Km’s walked: 0

Km’s in total: 1945

We enjoyed the sleep in until 8 where we all rose groggily but Jasper and I quickly found our way to the breakfast buffet. We were all seated with big bowls of yogurt full of peaches and plums and cereal. I was yelled at by the hostess for putting a croissant through the toaster as she pointed angrily at the little sign that said to not put the croissants in the toaster. I said sorry and asked if she wanted to turn the little sign around so that the customers could see it. After the big bowls of yogurt and way too many croissants, she brought us out our heaping plates of eggs, hash browns, bacon, sausage, tomatoes, and toast. We ate like kings.

The four of us went to a little cafe across the street for lunch where we stuffed ourselves on pizza, salmon, and dessert. Then three of us headed back to the lodge to relax some more while jack headed off on his adventure.

Jack needed to go into Blenheim to get a thermarest, and unfortunately the luckiest person ever got really unlucky today. He was stuck out in the rain trying to hitch, the whole, successful, endeavor took almost 7 hours.

The rest of the day was spent laying around talking to family members and catching up on social media shenanigans. It was a day well used to recuperate before we head out for 6-8 days to do the Travers Saddle and Waiau Pass.

I also want to thank the Bartuseks for their amazing kindness for putting us up in the really nice alpine lodge and paying for our food while we stayed there. Thank you so much.

Much love,

Will
